The Good, the Gritty, and the Gory
Gareth Edwards Brings Scale Back to the Franchise
What made 1993’s Jurassic Park unforgettable was Spielberg’s genius in crafting spectacle with emotional weight. Rebirth doesn’t quite reach those heights — but it does something the last few films forgot: it makes dinosaurs feel dangerous again.
From a breathtaking cliffside nest escape to a maritime Mosasaurus attack, Edwards masterfully balances scale and suspense. The cinematography by John Mathieson (Gladiator, Logan) deserves praise — from golden sunsets to deep jungle tension, every frame feels tactile and cinematic.
Suspense Over Spectacle
The first 25 minutes admittedly drag — attempting to clean up Dominion’s mess through sluggish exposition. But once the island sequences begin, Rebirth roars to life. Dinosaurs are terrifying again. You feel every footstep, every breath.
Characters: Mixed Bag, But Some Shine

The musical score by Alexandre Desplat attempts a delicate balance between John Williams’ legacy and new themes. It works, mostly — but occasionally feels disjointed or oddly placed.
Final Verdict: A Surprisingly Worthy Revival
Is Jurassic World: Rebirth perfect? Absolutely not.
The script is bloated, the dialogue sometimes clunky, and the franchise still struggles with character development. But for all its imperfections, it’s easily the most coherent and emotionally engaging Jurassic film since the original trilogy. It ditches world-building bloat for tight adventure, high stakes, and real danger.
If nothing else, it reminds us what we used to love about dinosaurs on screen — that mix of awe and fear. And that’s worth the price of admission.
